Skill of the Week: High Frequency Words: Past High Frequency Words: If you want to work on Work Study at home feel free to focus on the Skill of the Week. Some ideas for home practice are to TALK about words, IDENTIFY word families, HUNT for words, and WRITE words. WORD STUDY: In Word Study we EXPLORE WORDS! The students are very interested in words and make wonderful observations and ask questions about words. Word Study is a combination of explicit instruction, whole group instructions, exploration, as well as small group instruction and practice. During Word Study the students are investigate by making/ sharing observations about words, sorting words, building words, and playing games about words! It is through this exploration, that students will then recognize whole word families, identify when a word needs to be fixed in a writing piece, and helps them organize information. The assessment for Word Study is ongoing throughout the year, students are encouraged to proofread/ self-monitor their individual work, and will be working towards the mastery of the Third Grade High Frequency List by the end of the school year. Please remember that Word Study is not about memorization of words. Therefore, there will be no weekly spelling list/ tests. Fun Practice Websites:

Workshop Model: During Reader's and Writer's Workshops the students know that they are going to get down to WORK! The lesson begins with a mini-lesson of a skill/ strategy and quickly followed with a model of that skill. After that, students establish a strategy goal for themselves and begin working independently to achieve it. While students are independently working, the teacher is conferring with individual students or meeting in small groups. |
